M Rajesh definitely needs to think beyond relying completely on Santhanam. In this movie, most of his jokes and one-liners fall flat, due to lack of interesting screenplay. Although all his previous movie had wafer-thin story-line and relied completely on Santhanam, those movies had scope for Santhanam to take over the spotlight. Direction – RajeshĪfter a hat-trick of hits, M Rajesh misses the trick this time around. For instance, the conversation between Karthi, Kajal and Narain in the second half tests your patience. Some of the scenes seem to never end at all. Vivek Harshan’s editing could have been much better. Sakthi Saravanan‘s camera work is nothing to rave about.

The background score is far from being catchy and gets too loud at times. Under Thaman’s music, ‘ Unnai Partha Neram‘ and ‘Yaarukum Sollama’ are hummable. Prabhu, Saranya, Narain and others have stereotyped roles. Radhika Apte has her moments in the film, especially in the ‘ Unnai Partha Neram‘ song. On the other hand, MS Bhaskar‘s cameo does manage to provide some laughable moments. Even his one-liners are not his best, due to the unengaging screenplay. Santhanam overuses certain dialogues in the movie, which irk the audience. However, her role is limited to some mediocre singing and dancing acts in this commercial entertainer. Kajal looks beautiful in traditional costumes. There are few scenes in which he scores brownie points, but they are few and far apart. His acting is getting monotonous with each film and he also needs to tone down his body. Karthi definitely needs to explore different kind of roles. The rest of the plot shows if Raja and Devi Priya unite. In the flashback, the love episode between Muthu (played by Karthi) and Meenakshi (Radhika Apte) is shown and the reason why they had to part ways. However, Raja’s father Muthu (Prabhu) has his own reasons to stop the marriage.

However, ‘Al in All Azhagu Raja’ is far from that. When Rajesh announced that his next film will be with Karthi in the lead, movie buffs expected this fresh combination to come up with a refreshing entertainer. In the recent past, Karthi has suffered because of choosing mediocre scripts. Star Cast: Karthi as Azhagu Raja, Kajal Agarwal as Chitra Devi Priya, Santhanam as Kalyanam/Kalianan, Radhika Apte as Meenakshi, Prabhu as Muthu, Saranya Ponvannan, Aadukalam Naren, MS Bhaskar, Sriranjini, Nassar, Kota Srinivasa RaoĬinematography: Balasubramaniem, Sakthi Saravanan It featured Karthi, Kajal Agarwal and Santhanam in the lead roles. Finally, it’s all about Azhagu Raja (Karthi, who seems to have a fine nose for picking the worst scripts) falling for Devi Priya, and she not loving him back. Scenes go on and on with no point, and as a result, the film goes on and on pointlessly - an hour in, if you’d asked me what the story was, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you. What a wretched, bloated, unfunny mess this is, with the ugliest segues between comedy and melodrama in recent memory. Rajesh, the writer-director behind All in All Azhagu Raja, wrote a bad comedy, and he thought he wrote a good comedy simply because no one around him told him he writes comedy badly? How does someone think up such a character? Could she be autobiographical? Could it be that M. Devi Priya (Kajal Aggarwal) is a bad singer who thinks she’s a good singer simply because no one around her has told her she sings badly.
